Day 1
Short hike through the cloud forest of Volcán Mombacho (1-1/2 hours). Volcán Mombacho rises nearly 4,400 feet above sea level, its summit hidden in a dense cloud forest. We’ll hike around one of its forest-lined craters through an amazing ecosystem, home to colorful orchids and bromeliads, curious wildlife, fascinating insects, and over 160 species of birds. Landscape Photographer Jay Patel calls it “a photographers paradise”. You’ll also get a first-hand look at a shade-grown coffee farm. Lunch at an open air restaurant on the slope of Mombacho.
Day 2
Visit with a pineapple farmer and his family, a great opportunity to speak one-on-one with a local who will show you around his farm and talk about life as a farmer, now and during the time of war. Traditional Nicaraguan lunch at a local restaurant with an incredible view of the Laguna de Masaya.
Day 3
Morning drive to the countryside and Los Pueblos Blancos where local handicraft makers are famous for their woven fiber and precious hardwood furniture, hand-turned ceramics, and sweets. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to try your hand at the potter’s wheel. On the way back we will pass through Masaya, The Cradle of Nicaraguan Folklore, to check out the lively local and tourist markets, including a colorful folklore museum showcasing Nicaraguan costume and dance.
Lunch at popular local restaurant on Masaya’s bustling central park.
Day 4
One last spin around Granada in a horse carriage, or around Las Isletas, a tropical archipelago of 365 tiny islands of volcanic origin, in a boat (time permitting). Ride to airport
