Edmonton Symphony Orchestra Blog Night

After Thoughts in the Lobby of the Edmonton Symphony

Bill Eddins and Allan Gilliland were both available for questions in the lobby after the concert concluded. It was very refreshing to see Bill Eddins with a beer in his hand, and Mr. Gilliland with a glass of wine. They sat atop tall stools and fielded questions from the audience, which was not leaving any time soon, or so it seemed. I found one of my fellow bloggers in the crowd too, also taking it in.

Bill was asked how Allan, a jazz trumpeter, had done composing for the piano. Bill diplomatically said that he had to practice while his children were at school because he didn’t want them to hear the foul language coming out of his mouth. All in good, light hearted fun though, of course.

He also talked about his wedding anniversary recently and talked of his wife making pot pies the next day. He’s a musical whiz but seems like just a good ol’ normal guy like the rest of us.

The ESO CD Store Now A Martini Bar?

We concluded our evening by looking for the CD store which apparently has been a martini bar for years. Go figure, told you it’s been a while. I saw a CD of Harlen’s there last time I was at the Winspear and I’m sorry I didn’t pick it up.

Okay we’re hungry – off to Chinatown for some good eats!

Look for more ESO blog nights to come. The Edmonton Symphony plan on making this a regular event and we may get invited back again if we’re good.
