Testimonials – what students are saying about Her View Photography tutoring and classes

Here’s just a few things some of our past students have had to say about our workshops, classes or tutoring services.   Don’t take our word for it – read on!

  • Lines by Sue ThompsonExcited to get my new Metro (Metro Continuing Education) newsletter of the upcoming classes for the summer I came across an Edmonton Streetwalk  photography class which intrigued me.   As I have alove for photography,   I thought this  would be an excellent adventure and a great way to meet new people and learn new techniques.   The instructor for this class was Darlene Hildebrandt.  I had googled  her  website  and found  some amazing   images.  We had two classroom sessions and a Saturday field trip to the downtown area. –  Sue T,  Metro Continuing Education Photo Walk class July 2011
  • We each had a theme to capture which was a lot of fun. On our second classroom session we discussed and voted on our favourite images.  You seem to take for granted what you see each and everyday  and  I now take my time to visualize from a photographic  view.   Darlene is a very  personable instructor who has a lot to offer in this and any other course that she teaches.  I look forward to future classes with her.   – Sue T,  Metro Continuing Education Photo Walk class July 2011
  • I do a lot of night photography. Painting light is new to me and the evening’s learning was about being able to actively witness and involve myself in the activity with others; I saw what needs to happen with the camera, the cable release, aperture and stopwatch. Lighting needs to be away from the camera and directed to the subject’s exterior and where/when possible, interior. Ideally two people are needed for painting light; but, I was able to work a few shots through on my own (as I might do at home). – Ross E,  photography tutoring student, and Night ClassField Trip participant

  • Biggest impact: in viewing one of Darlene’s pictures – the focused and lit fence post with barbed wire leading line (foreground) in front of a silhouetted shed (middle ground) against a tree line and the city’s ambient light (background) – I was treated to an example of creating depth within a photo, something proposed  in ‘A Deeper Frame, Creating Deeper Images & More Engaging Experiences’ by David DuChemin,’ a short e-book recommended by Darlene.   With this shot, Darlene has demonstrated how to create depth within a photograph and (because I was there) that the possibilities for doing so are everywhere, even while painting light. – Ross E,  photography tutoring student, and Night Class Field Trip participant
  • I enjoyed your workshop yesterday.  You provided more great tips and tricks on portraiture than I can possibly remember. 😉   – Vadim B, Available Light Workshop

  • LOVED the class!!! Honestly probably one of the best I have taken. She did a great job of balancing the needs of very knowledgeable (and not so knowledgeable) in the class!! Her handouts were also a great take home reference!! There was a very nice balance of lecture and hands on work. She also did a good job of connecting with the class and providing opportunities for us to connect with each other. I have stalked her website and her classes ever since! I haven’t been able to make it to another one – Naomi P.K. Available Light Workshop
  • I’ve known Darlene for a while, and have always been impressed and awed with her work – I loved the look, the feel, the colors and the emotions that were portrayed in her amazing photography.  As a newbie in the world of Photography, I was pleased with results I was getting, but still felt that there was something more I could be doing to take my art to a new level.  I was fortunate to spend some time with Darlene where she took me from one end of the spectrum – from technical information about my camera, explaining different techniques, theories and practices with me – to shooting, scouting, post production, touch ups and software tips and tricks.  In our one-on-one tutoring session we worked together through some of my photographs. The knowledge and skill that Darlene was able to teach me – took my art to a completely different level.   Knowing that I took the picture, processed it through – I am amazed at the results, and stunned that my art is looking as amazing as it is. – Zepporah H, photography tutoring student
  • “Having the privilege of Master Photographer, Darlene Hildebrandt, assist me in understanding the nuances of digital techniques and style, she has given me the confidence to bring my photography to a new level. Darlene’s commitment to sharing her knowledge has strengthened my photographic journey and I highly recommend her.”  – Charlene Williams,  photography tutoring student
  • “I recently decided to take up photography as a hobby and I wanted to have someone teach me to take photographs.  I found Darlene on the internet and I was drawn to her beautiful pictures and I gave her a call and got some lessons from her. She is very helpful with her suggestions and makes it easy to have fun while taking pictures. She has been in the industry for a long time is very knowledgeable giving feed back to improve your ability to take pictures. She is great at giving recommendations for equipment to use and how to get the best use out of your camera but most of all she makes taking pictures fun.”  – Phillip Mahphotography tutoring student
  • We did a private lighting session and it was great! It Helped us out tremendously! Darlene explained things very well, and made it easy to understand. I would recommend her to anyone!” – Colette & Gary photography tutoring students
  • “Thank you so much for the available light class.  I have enjoyed all the classes I have taken with you but this class taught me a lot about small details and really practical things you need in order to photograph people, which to me are some of the most important pictures I will take. This class taught me to pay attention to positioning and shadowing of people and how to make anyone and everyone look their best.   I look forward to reading her view photography and hopefully taking another one of your classes.” – Jessica Slamko Available Light Workshop
